Red Angel Of Sirmium kennel The Laizhou Hong, also known as the Chinese Red Dog, is a rare breed of large, molosser type dogs that originated in Shandong province, China. Its striking red coat and sturdy build make it a sought-after breed for dog enthusiasts around the world. Despite its popularity, information on the breed is scant, making it a challenge for those seeking in-depth knowledge.
The Laizhou Hong breed was established in the 19th century when German colonizers arrived in the area with their Great Danes and German Shepherd Dogs, and bred them with local dogs, including the Shandong Xian Hound. As a result, the Laizhou Hong has a unique lineage that sets it apart from other dog breeds.
Described as confident, loyal, friendly, and calm, the Laizhou Hong makes an excellent family dog. However, it also possesses a natural protection streak, making it an ideal working dog on farms or as a protection dog. With males reaching up to 32 inches in height and weighing up to 100 pounds, the Laizhou Hong is a robust and sturdy breed.
While the Laizhou Hong appeared in the 2019 World Dog Show in Shanghai under Group 11 - Non FCI Breeds, it remains a rare breed outside of China. Laizhou Hong puppies have gorgeous red coats and tall, pointed ears, making them a desirable addition to any dog-loving family. However, they require a job to do to keep them mentally and physically stimulated.
Laizhou Hong Also known as the Chinese Red Dog, Laizhou Hong pups have gorgeous red coats (“hong” means red) and tall, pointed ears. It’s believed these dogs were bred by combining indigenous Chinese breeds with German Shepherds and Rottweilers in the 19th century when German settlers made their way into China. These dogs are brave yet kind and make good social companions. Be sure to give them a job to do.
